About the Blue Ribbon Task Force and Senator Uresti
The Bexar County Blue Ribbon Task Force was founded by Senator Carlos Uresti after the tragic death of Jovonie Ochoa, a four-year-old San Antonio boy who was starved by his own family and died on Christmas Day 2003. In the 81st Texas Legislature, Senator Uresti expanded the fight against child abuse and neglect by creating the Statewide Blue Ribbon Task Force.
The nine-member Task Force has been developing a strategic plan to combat child abuse and improve child welfare by focusing on how to most efficiently utilize limited resources to maximize the greatest prevention of child abuse and neglect. The Task Force helped advance the issue but additional work was needed. So in the 82nd Texas Legislature, Sen. Uresti passed Senate Bill 1154 extending the life of the Task Force until 2013.
This site is designed to help facilitate the work of the Task Force and will serve as a repository for their administrative documents, working papers, presentations and testimony provided to the Task Force.
