Sometimes as families we find ourselves experiencing difficult challenges.  We want to encourage families to feel comfortable with reaching out for help because we know support can make a difference.  We have listed resources that offer support services, along with some of their program criteria to help you select an appropriate resource for your family.

Crisis Hotlines

Battered Women and Children's Shelter- Hotline
Provides caring and supportive crisis intervention by telephone.

San Antonio Police Department
Victim Services- Crisis response team is assigned to victims of family violence and are offered safety, support, and counseling.

iParent SA- Crisis Line
Provides caring and supportive crisis intervention for parents by telephone.

Baptist Child and Family Services (STAR)
Provides crisis intervention to family via telephone and other related services.

Emergency Shelters

iParent SA- Children's Shelter
Emergency Respite Care for parent who agrees to participate in the iParent program

Respite Care of San Antonio
Provides respite care for children with special medical and mental health needs.

Roy Mas Youth Emergency Shelter
Parents may call for temporary emergency shelter for youths 5-17 years old.

Salvation Army Hope Center for Women and Children
Emergency shelter for women and children, as well as families. Must be married with child to qualify for family shelter.

Salvation Army Shelter for Men
Emergency shelter for men.

Family Violence

Battered Women and Children's Shelter
Provides a safe place for women and their children experiencing family violence.

Salvation Army Hope Center for Women and Children
Emergency Shelter for women and children.

Bexar County Family Justice Center
Assists with the legal process of obtaining protective orders.

Atascosa Family Crisis Center
Family Violence Services for the rural population. 1-830-569-2001

New Baby

Nurse-Family Partnership
Free In-Home nursing services for expecting mothers.

Any Baby Can
Provides case management support to parents with children with special needs from birth to 17.

Catholic Charities- Birth Doulas
Provides support during pregnancy and aides in newborn education and care.

Healthy Start- City of San Antonio
Provides home visitation services to pregnant women until the baby turns two years of age.

Parenting Skills

Texas Families- Together and Safe
Parenting Education and Support Program via Baptist Child and Family Services.

Any Baby Can
Provides parenting education and guidance to parents with children with special needs.

Boystown- In-home Services & Common Sense Parenting
In-home family services intended to strengthen family and assist in reunification.

Avalon Nurturing Program
Free In-home parenting program.


Substance Abuse

Mid-Coast Family Services
Free Substance Abuse Assessments for adults and youths.

Restoration Center
Substance Abuse Assessments and Detoxification Center for adults.

Center for Health Care Services- Youth substance abuse prevention

Alpha Home
In-patient and out-patient treatment for women.

Project Carino- Center for Healthcare Services
Outpatient substance treatment for mothers and expecting mothers. 210- 246-1300 or 210-261-3076

Rise Recovery- Palmer Drug Abuse Program
Offers individual counseling and coaching for both youths and adults.

Lifetime Recovery- Alcoholic Rehab Center
Offers substance abuse treatment for adults.

Sexual Abuse

Center for Miracles- The Children's Hospital
Medical assessments for children suspected of being sexually abused within 96 hours.

ChildSafe
Conducts forensic interviews with children and provides counseling for children who have experienced abuse.

San Antonio Police Department
Email or call the Sex Crimes Department if you are a victim or know of a victim.

The Rape Crisis Center
Provides counseling and services for victims of sexual assault and their families.

Bexar County Juvenile Justice Center- Mission Roads Center
Female victims of sex trafficking may receive services via Restore Court. Youths are placed in a specialized detention facility specific for this type of trauma.

Freedom Place- Arrow Child and Family Ministries
Comprehensive Care Facility for sex trafficking victims.

Medical/Health

Network of Care-Alamo Service Connection
Provides a list of free and sliding scale clinics in the Bexar County Area.

Center for Miracles - The Children's Hospital of San Antonio
Conducts full medical forensic examinations of children suspected of being abused or neglected.

Nurse- Family Partnership=Children's Shelter
In-home pre-natal care for first time mothers who are 28 weeks or less.

CentroMed
Medical services for lower income households.

Mental Health

CMOT Childrens Mobile Crisis Outreach Clinic
Travels to location to provide crisis mental health assessments and assists in securing hospitalization if necessary.

Harvey E Najim Hope Center at The Children's Shelter
For children with a history of trauma (could be brought in by a grandparent).

Child Safe
Provides counseling to children who are victims of abuse. Serve as a resource and advocate for children and families.

Avalon Counseling
Provides In-Home Counseling. Accepts Medicaid.

Network of Care-Bexar County
A list of free and sliding scale mental health services for youth and families.

Housing

SAMM's Ministries
Temporary assistance for families at risk of homelessness and transitional housing for those already displaced.

Guadalupe Home
Transitional living for mothers with up to two children under the age of 3 and expecting mothers.

Fairweather Family Lodging
Transitional living for mothers with mental illness, must have children in your care.

Visitation House
Provides transitional living for mothers and children.
